Another Mongolian dinner in Beijing, after one really bad one and one really good one. Here’s the official one in the Mongolia Region Representative Office in Beijing and it’s just across my new office.
金帳手把肉鏟板 Boiled mutton was exactly that – boiled meat. Must be eaten with the sauces provided to have any flavour.
Their 金牌羊雜 Signature mutton offals stew was my favourite for the evening. The stew was flavourful and full of aromatic spices. Reminded me of kambing soup, but better.
羊肉串 Lamb kebab was OK but a bit pricey.
Another one that offered fish, but again 蔥燜鯉魚 carp with scallions was quite horrible. The fish was muddy and the sauce did not do anything to help as it was just smothered on the fish and not absorbed into the fish.
蒙古餡餅 Mongolian stuffed bread was like mutton stuffed pita.
家鄉擱鍋面 Village noodles is a must order – tangy tomato based soup with homemade noodles.
So this is an OK Mongolian restaurant but a bit pricey. Only if you are entertaining, else 99 Gers still a better choice.
