This is the third visit in three months to Spring in Shanghai, which goes to show how much we enjoy this restaurant just below our office.
It’s almost impossible to order something that we had not done before. We tried our best.
1/ 北極貝撈汁秋葵 okra in pacific clam sauce
What was interesting was the presentation. The okra was slightly blanched and dressed with a seafood sauce. But it was presented on tope of a plate where there’s a live fish swimming! No kidding, that little goldfish on the left was alive.
2/ 醬油熗長江河蝦 river shrimp in soy sauce
3/ 原味燒仔排 braised pork ribs in sweet sauce
Tasted like Wuxi spare ribs.
4/ 炒韭菜皇 stir-fry yellow chives
Simple and tasty.
5/ 醬汁鳳爪 stewed chicken feet
This is usually a dimsum dish, but here it is a whole main course. The braised peanuts were the highlights.
6/ 特色老本幫醬鴨 braised duck in heavy sauce
7/ 蠔皇牛肉 beef with oyster sauce
Simple and tasty, got to try making it some day. Just good quality beef fillet, oyster sauce, ginger and garlic on a bed of caixin.
8/ 椒鹽九肚魚 deep fried fish fillet
This was the best dish for lunch this time round. Perfectly battered fish, beat all fish and chips I have eaten before this.
9/ 沙窩大魚頭 carp fish head in casserole
Seasonal, not recommended.
10/ 清炒上海青 stir-fry vegetable
Nothing to shout about.
