Many years ago, I was posted to Shanghai. One of my favourite restaurants in Shanghai was a seafood restaurant called Suyou which originated in Xiamen. Years later, I finally got a chance to go to Xiamen and of course, try the seafood there.
Pier Seafood is a small seafood restaurant directly opposite to The Westin Xiamen. I chanced upon it when I was looking for a nearby spot for lunch with some colleagues as we were preparing for a user conference.
招牌冻猪手 Chilled Pig Trotters

Give it a miss, the trotters were really hard and difficult to eat.
捞起旺螺 Poached Sea Snails

The poached sea snails were marinated in a vinegar soy sauce. Very challenging to take out from the shell. Again, give it a miss.
姜葱炒油蛤 Sautéed Surf Clam with Ginger and Garlic

Finally something that was quite nice.

The surf clams were very fresh, so simple sautéed with simple aromatics like ginger and garlic will do.
海蛎豆腐羹 Oysters and Tofu Soup

Fujian-style soup like to add cornstarch to make it thick. Not a big fan.

But there’s quite a fair amount of oysters making the soup tasted like Taiwan oyster rice noodles.
椒盐小斑节虾 Salt and Pepper Shrimps

Crispy and nice, but it would be even better if they had used smaller shrimps.
避风塘菜蟹 Typhoon Shelter Mud Crab

Fresh mud crab done in a popular style from Hong Kong. Been a while since I have been there, so this was a good replacement.
炒米粉 Fried Bee Hoon

Reminded me of my Grandma’s fried bee hoon. Yummy.
蒜蓉炒地瓜叶 Sautéed Sweet Potato Leaves

上汤红苋菜 Red Spinach in Stock

木瓜雪蛤 Double-Boiled Hashima in Papaya

Simple lunch, fresh seafood, but poor cooking. Don’t think I will be back again.
