George’s Paragon @ Brisbane (Closed)

The pandemic and redevelopment took another victim – George’s Paragon at Eagle Street Pier.

What a view!

An iconic Brisbane waterfront precinct, Eagle Street Pier is home to world class dining options with unrivalled views of the Brisbane River and Story Bridge (R). Well known for its award winning restaurants, casual dining spots, and entertainment hot spots.

We order a Greek Hor’s D’oeuvres to share. It came with every appetiser on the menu in a tasting portion – (clockwise) two skewers of beef souvlaki, grilled haloumi, deep fried calamari rings, grilled baby octopus, spanakopita (Greek spanich pie), cubes of feta cheese, taramasalata (fish roe) and tzatziki (cucumber yoghurt) dips, pitted olives and pita bread. The dolmathes (stuffed vine leaves) was hidden out of sight. Very generous and very tasty.

My colleague ordered one of their specials, the Kanoni set, which came with a bit of everything – grilled swordfish steak, BBQ Moreton Bay bug and king prawn.

Barbecued Bugs

Note to self: This is how you cook Moreton Bay Bugs. I love these bugs! And I would order them when the restaurant do not overprice their bugs. Called “har poh or slipper lobster in Singapore, these crustaceans are usually cooked with a sauce and can be found in markets all over SE Asia. But if there are as fresh as these, all you need is a BBQ.

Overall the food was delicious, service was attentive, but there was a lot of hidden costs to the meal. Just be careful when you ordered, and the price was not as printed, especially those marked market price.
