First night in Bangalore after ten years, yearning for some nice Indian food. Found this multi-story entertainment complex just next to our hotel.
As an entertainment complex, Big Pitcher have more pubs and discos than proper dining establishment in the place. But what attracted us was the microbrewery. They make their own beer! That’s a welcoming sight in the hot and humid Bangalore evenings.
We asked for the least noisy concept that they have, and they recommended that we go to the roof-top open-air gastropub called the Star Lounge.
Lamb bone broth
Broth extracted from ghee-roasted, marinated lamb bone, served with toasted baguette
A bit like our kambing soup but much more oily. I guessed they put a lot of ghee (clarified butter) in the preparation of this soup.
Tandoor platter
Non-vegetarian version, with classic tandoor items like green chicken ghee roast, murgh chandi tikka, kadak murgh sheek (kebab), grilled shrimp served with garlic paratha.
Grilled king fish with Indian spices
Hmmm, never order seafood inland.
Tawa grilled chicken pepper garlic
Spicy grilled chicken breasts – the spices made it worth its while.
Murgh tandoori
Spring baby chicken marinated in special tandoori spice mixture
Tandoori chicken is a chicken dish prepared by roasting chicken marinated in yoghurt and spices in a tandoor, a cylindrical clay oven.
Grilled king prawns with pink pepper sauce
If you are wondering what’s that pink pepper sauce, its a spicy mayo-cheese mix grilled with the king prawns.
Galouti kabab
Silky minced lamb grilled on a griddle plate, served with fresh tawa paratha
The legend goes that the Nawab had lost most of his dentures due to old age, but his penchant for kebabs were far from dying. The Nawabs of Lucknow were men of taste. They were as serious about their indulgences as their courtly affairs. So for their toothless Nawab, the seasoned khansamas came up with a popular variant which needed no chewing yet had the same rich flavours and taste of a kebab.
The evening in Bangalore was not much reprieve from the heat in the morning. And if you dressed down to T-shirts and shorts, you will be smorgasbord for the mosquitoes. So the Star Lounge on roof top was a nice location to dress down, have a cold one, and chill for the evening.
