Gracie’s is Salt Lake City’s only choice for brunch, lunch, dinner, cocktails, live music, and nightlife, a favourite among my colleagues.
Gracie’s is a Gastropub in the heart of Salt Lake City that offers a unique dining experience in a fun and exciting environment. But don’t expect cutting-edge cuisine at Gracie’s; the food is pretty solid and dependable, but not terribly adventurous.

Roasted brussel sprouts and buttermilk battered chicken strips

buttermilk battered chicken strips | chicken breast strips cut in-house, red-eye gravy
The chicken strips are sliced from a whole chicken breast and fried in a buttermilk- flour coating that creates a satisfying outer crunch to the white meat chicken. I found that the bigger strips tend to get a little dry in the cooking process—nothing that the included side of red eye gravy can’t fix.
roasted brussel sprouts | topped with balsamic reduction
I love Brussels sprouts. While they are nutritious, they can be a challenge to cook. Boil them, they can get geriatric soft. And they can become bitter sometime. Here, they were roasted and dressed with a sweet balsamic vinegar reduction. The smokey flavours were brought out by the sweet sticky vinegar that was so secretly present.
Beef Nachos

house cut corn tortilla chips | queso | cheddar | mozzarella | tomatoes | onion | jalapeños | black beans | sour cream | beef
Rainbow colours tortilla chips topped with a messy load of ingredients. I was never appreciative of Tex-mex.
Entrees
Gracie’s Crown Ribs

pork ribs crowned & braised in ancho chili bbq sauce, pomme frites, brussel sprouts, corn bread
A whole slab of pork ribs, bbqed to fork tender and rolled into a nice looking crown. This is a full American portion, there was enough ribs for three persons. And the two pieces of corn bread, in Singapore, it’s called a loaf of bread.
Gracie’s Mac & Cheese

lump crab, bay shrimp, sharp cheddar, mozzarella, gruyere, parmesan, macaroni-served with a dinner roll
It arrives in a sailboat of a ramekin with a thin crust of toasted breadcrumbs and lump crab meat sealing in a layer of melted cheese—four types, to be exact—and sliced bay shrimp. The crab and shrimp do a lot to send this dish over the top. But it’s the mixture of sharp cheddar, mozzarella, gruyère and Parmesan cheese, coupled with a kick of cayenne pepper, that makes this variant on a nostalgic favourite something to savour.
Burgers and Sandwiches
All of the burgers and sandwiches at Gracie’s—from the grilled chicken with fromage to the chipotle steak wrap—come with lettuce, tomato, Dijon mustard, mayo and a choice of side salad, cup of soup or fries (sweet potato, standard or a combination of both)
Caprese chicken with fries

chicken breast, pesto, lettuce, tomato, mozzarella, basil, caramelized onion, balsamic reduction, ciabatta
My fellow dinner mate ordered a grilled chicken breast sandwich, and because it’s America, it has to be extravagantly stacked with a whole slab of mozzarella cheese with pesto sauce and a portion of salad stuffed into an entire full size ciabatta.
Plain Jane with sweet potato fries

angus beef, white cheddar, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickle, utah sauce
Plain Jane was not plain at all. Nice angus beef patty grilled with bits of charred fats, the way I loved it. But I am sticking to my ribs.
The Atmosphere
I’ve been impressed by the vibe, the friendly, professional service and, most surprisingly, the food.

Make no mistake, though, Gracie’s is a bar. Your ID will be scanned when you enter, and if you’re under 21, you’re out of luck.

Gracie’s offers live music or a D.J. almost every night of the week
Much of its staying power is due to a kickass location and a well-maintained space, but this is a place that shows due reverence to the special kind of magic that floats through the downtown cityscape after the sun gets tired of scorching the streets, enjoying our brand of nightlife than on the roof of Gracie’s, listening to a local band’s music bleed into the live music of West Temple below.
