No Menu @ Telok Ayer

There’s a menu at No Menu, but you can also do a ‘no-menu’ option if you have a group dining together. These days it’s a dream to do that.

I was walking around the CBD with my colleague after an intense meeting, looking for some lunch. The Telok Ayer area was bustling with the expat and business lunchtime crowd. The bistros and restaurants look like good business as most would have some lunch specials to attract the walk-ins these days. That’s when we walked by No Menu.

Bread and salami

No Menu is a family-style Italian restaurant along Boon Tat Street and encourages sharing the hearty family Italian heirloom courses among the table during the normal time. These days, you can order ala carte from the menu or the daily lunch special – which we did.

Burrata caprese

We ordered a whole burrata cheese with Sicilian tomatoes and Parma ham to share. Without prompting, they split the portion into two so that we needn’t to feel awkward sharing from a same plate during these special times. The burrata used was specially flown in from Italy for the restaurant, and it was deliciously creamy and moist!

Wagyu beef cheek in red wine braise

For the main, we ordered the wagyu beef cheek braised in red wine with mashed potato – their daily special. The beef had been cooked to fork tender perfection with a delicious sauce to match. My colleague cleaned up the entire place, sauce and all.

It has a good lunchtime crowd, partly because of the excellent Italian food and mainly for the friendly and attentive service staff. Hopefully thing becomes more normal and I can try the family-style degustation menu. In the meantime, you can order that for enjoying it at home.
