Walking around the historic area of Al Shindagha, the place was just recovering from post-pandemic trauma as most of the shops were closed. Luckily we followed a tour group and found this place.

Bait al Jeyran restaurant is housed in a restored Dubai home along the Dubai Creek at the historic Al Shindagha district. From 1912 to 1958, the then ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum, lived in the area. They were busy catering to tour groups coming to this historical area.

We promptly ordered a couple of items for lunch, noticing the price for lunch was not too expensive. Then they came with a basket of complimentary bread. Lavash bread is a delicious unleavened flatbread traditionally baked in a tandoor, often used to make lavash wrap, or even lavash crackers. Or they can be eaten on their own and paired with mezze or dips.

- Kofta is a Middle Eastern dish made from ground lamb or beef mixed with onions, garlic, and spices.
- Tikka is a dish consisting of pieces of meat or vegetarian alternatives, with its origins tracing back to the Mughal Empire. Chicken tikka was served in this mixed grill, and it was quite good.
- Shish Taouk is a traditional marinated chicken shish kebab of Ottoman cuisine that later became part of Middle Eastern cuisine.
- Arayes are a Lebanese classic street food which is grilled pita bread that is stuffed with spiced ground beef (or kofta). It is served as a light meal and can be dipped into either yogurt, tahini sauce or even (horror!) ketchup.

If you are looking for the full Emirati experience, then a meal that has camel meat is a must-have. Camel taouk tasted like a very lean piece of beef but still tender and moist. A very good and exotic eat, but these animals were especially bred for their meat and milk over here.

And the lamb chop was really good; I would rate them as the best piece of BBQ on the platter.
The service was good, the air conditioning was fantastic. I think this restaurant is operated by Chinese owners. I wish them good luck in this rather unfriendly business environment for foreigners.
