Sometime one does not need to look far to find a wonderful meal in something as simple as wanton mee.

They went by a couple of names before deciding on a brand 華成记 Wah Seng Kee. A humble plate of wanton mee, crafted with their secret family recipe since 1946, all the way back to their first stall along 三马路 aka Queen Street. And they set apart from others with a chicken feet with their signature wanton noodles.

They serve a soup and a dry version of the wanton noodles. The charsiew used was also made in house, and cannot be compared in standard with the Cantonese BBQ version. They were simply pork loin with colouring. I recommend the dry version anytime.

Everything is made in the store. I don’t think they have other branches (or they were closed after the pandemic).

I wasn’t impressed by their dumplings 水饺 even though each one of them have a whole prawn. The dumpling disintegrated in the soup and I was left with meatballs.

The wantons 云吞 were much better. Each was about the size of a golf ball and the skin didn’t disintegrate. The meat was a good mix of fats and lean pork.

香脆猪油渣 crunchy fresh pork lard is made in house and it requires lot’s of patience to drive out the moisture to make it ultra-crispy. But you had to ask for more pork lard before they would sprinkled in liberally on your wanton noodles.

The factory they use are factory made but they are made according to their recipe and requirements. The noodles are slightly more chewy than most, and they shake the noodles extra hard to get rid of extra moisture.

I loved the al dente noodles and the chilli that they used for the dry version. Every time I asked for extra noodles (top up 50¢) and more chilli. They don’t dilute the sauce with more soup stock, but with more chilli and condiments.

Located inside KPT 313, this is the best wanton noodle within my vicinity. Went there several times, and each time it did not disappoint. The guy at the store may be a bit curt (but not rude), but hey we are here for noodles.
