Only when I stepped into the restaurant did I realised that this was an offshoot of the revenant Cantonese restaurant in Kowloon.

Founded in 1971 in Hong Kong, Jade Garden 翠園 is 美心集团 Maxim’s Group’s first Cantonese restaurant with a game-changing concept of “Chinese food, Western service”. This branch in Beijing is one of many that they have ventured into the mainland. Their style of Cantonese food is quite varied, from dimsum to classics to roasts to innovative dishes.

Our Lunch Menu
Iberico Ham Salad

Didn’t see the Iberico ham in the salad. Some tired looking leaves.
Quick Soy Sauce Chicken

頻倫 (in Cantonese: panlan) is a Cantonese phrase for “in a rush”. This is a style of chicken that characterised the constant urgency of Hong Kongers. The chicken is poached rapidly by pouring boiling soy sauce-based braising liquid over the chicken, like how you would make Hainanese poached chicken.
Sautéed Asparagus with Beef Cubes

Standard fare, the best friends (asparagus and beef) in a single plate, although the two parts were prepared separately.
Sautéed Prawns with Choysum

Another standard fare, a bit bland for my taste.
Clams with Tofu and Bokchoy Casserole

A Cantonese style boiled soup using milky white stock with clams for added umami.
Steamed Marble Goby

Marble goby is a very delicate fish and if it is very fresh, then steaming it would be the best method of preparing this fish.
Poached HK Kailan

It seemed easy, boiling vegetable in water. But they didn’t use water. Instead chicken stock was used to give it a really nice flavour. And was it chicken oil that was added at the very end? Delicious.
Signature Fried Rice

Perhaps I was really craving for rice (I didn’t had any rice for the last two weeks, trying to cut down my carbs intake), this fried rice hit the spot instantly with the wokhei and nice blend of savouriness and umami.
