Welcome to my home for a private lunch! We picked this place because we had a flight to catch right after the meal.
Too much food for lunch, thanks to my business partners in Shanghai. I felt bad about all the leftover food.
Our Lunch Menu
Jellyfish with Celtuce

I liked the crunchiness of whole pieces of jellyfish (which they took from the cap of the jellyfish) and the salted celtuce. Nice appetiser.
Vegetable Salad

Avocadoes, unripe ones for that matter, are added to the salad that’s drowning in dressing.
Jamine Smoked Cod Fish

Smoked fish 熏鱼 is a classic Shanghainese appetiser, but it is usually made with pomfret. These are made from boneless cod fish fillets. Nice texture, good flavours, not too sweet, and best of all, boneless.
Wine Marinated Pig Stomach

Wine marinate 酒糟 is another classic Shanghainese appetiser, and usually made with offals and other parts that thrown away, eg. chicken feet, wing tips, etc. The pig stomach is crunchy and flavoursome. At this point in time, I began to wonder the Cantonese part of the restaurant, as everything seemed to be Shanghainese.
Snow Crab and Geoduck Platter
Very extravagant starter, sashimi of geoduck paired with boiled snow crab legs. The carb roe was used in the tofu dish later.
Bamboo Fungus Chicken Soup

Simple clear soup to ease the palate from all the cold dishes. Suddenly, the soup seemed to be kind of bland.
Crab Roe River Clam Tofu

The crab roe from the snow crab returned in a tofu dish with river claim. Very rich and full of umami, needed some vinegar or steamed rice.
Braised River Puffer Fish

The last time I had this dish, I nearly died on the way back to the hotel. Sensed the tingling sensation as I ate the fish, so I left it alone as I would be stuck in an aluminium tube for a couple of hours late.
Black Pepper Diced Beef

Always appearing in all the banquets, I don’t know the affection to this particular dish. Perhaps it’s because all the foreigners gave high praise for this dish among all the Chinese dishes.
Sautéed Snap Peas, Mountain Yam and Australian Scallops with XO Sauce

I liked this dish, simple and unexaggerated, letting the tastes of the ingredients through with a bit of spiciness and savouriness from the XO sauce.
Fish Maw with Crab Roe

Another very rich and expensive dish, the fish maw is a sought after ingredient that is often offered to important guest. I get it, but it’s too much for lunch.
Sautéed Red Spinach with Garlic

Finally another simple dish, this sautéed spinach I like.
Shanghai Pan-Fried Wontons

Like Japanese gyozas except that they are much bigger, Shanghainesse wontons rounded up a long lunch.
Fruit Platter

We finished all the fruits, the only dish we cleared.

Its location is very near Hongqiao airport, so it’s perfect for a preflight lunch meeting to fully make use of the time. As there’s a minimum spend for the private rooms, one tends to overdo it. The food was proper and the service was attentive. But other than the location (proximity to the airport), this is not somewhere I would consider in Shanghai.
