Wine Connection @ Robertson

Expatriate enclave of Robertson Quay has seen a burst of life after the pandemic, the many interesting eateries have sprung up. But an old-timer here remained and expanded to take over the location vacated by the hotpot restaurant.

Wine Connection was founded in 1998 in Bangkok by French entrepreneur Michael Trocherie when he was 24 years old. He started by selling wine to hotels and restaurants. The concept Michael had in mind for Wine Connection was to make wine available and affordable for everyone. And yes he had made it affordable in comparison to other wine bar, and to sweeten the deal, for every $60+ bottle of wine you order, they throw in a free tapas at this Robertson Quay outlet.

One Mouth Soft-Shell Crab

Crispy baby soft-shell crab tossed in chilli paprika, with a refreshing cucumber yoghurt dip.

These were so good, little parcels of savouriness and umami. The dip was totally unnecessary. I wanted to order another portion, but suddenly I remembered years ago I had an allergic reaction for eating too much of these small little crabs, so I resisted.

Escargot Persillade

French escargot in garlic herbs & spice butter, served with toasted bread.

The escargot was spot on but there was too little of the garlic/parsley/butter/oil persillade for us to dip the toast into.

Crostini with Brie & Anchovies

Crostini topped with fresh brie & anchovies.

Simple but delicious, an idea for my next party.

Padrón Peppers

Crispy deep fried padrón peppers with aioli dip.

Padrón Peppers

Another delicious tapa, great for drinking.

Mixed Platter

Our selection of artisanal farm cheeses imported from Europe weekly: Tomme de Savoie, Saint Nectaire, Brie de Meaux, Spanish Paprika Goat Cheese, Bleu d’Auvergne & cold cuts: Rosette, Mortadella, Bresaola, Chorizo & Parma Ham. Served with bread & condiments.

5 types of cheeses and 5 types of ham, we were spoiled for choices. And everything tasted good. We had the burrata as a separate order and that was delicious too.

250g Angus Ribeye, Grain Fed, Marble 2+

250g Grain Fed, Marble 2+ Angus Steak, served with French fries, mesclun salad & a choice of sauce.

Nothing to fault about this medium-rare steak, but it could be the drinks talking at this point in time.

Really large restaurant, we could just walk in and get a table, but reservation available just in case. There are three Wine Connection outlets in Robertson Walk, this one is facing Mohd Sultan Road.
