If you’re curious, the name of the restaurant is spelled phonetically to how you would pronounce wontons in Cantonese.

Hon’s Wun-Tun House has served generations of Cantonese-style wonton noodles lovers for almost half a century in San Francisco Chinatown. The small space has been in operation on Kearny Street since 1972 — an ancient restaurant age that very few others can claim.

Located at the prime location just minutes away from the financial district, Hon’s Wun-Tun House has preserved its authentic taste of the Hong Kong style wonton noodle soup. Fans praise the wonton soup ladled out at this Chinese restaurant with nothing-fancy decor.

Ng Yuen Wah is a Chinese-American success story. She purchased Hon’s Wun-Tun in 2010 after working at the restaurant for 30 years. Since the restaurant sits on the border of the Financial District and Chinatown, it’s frequented by both by locals and downtown workers.
鮮蝦雲吞面 House Special Wun-Tun Noodle Soup With Shrimp & Pork

The house special wonton noodle soup has only four components: shrimp and pork wontons, egg noodles, soup and scallions. The wontons were done properly with the right ratio of shrimp and pork. The wonton casings were tight, holding all of that delicious filling together. The soup base was spot on by being clean and full of flavour, just like how they do it in Hong Kong. The noodles were springy and had a great texture.
牛什撈麵 Beef Organ Over Noodle

I love beef offals and they know how to it properly in Hong Kong. Across the ocean, Hon’s has brought the recipe along and blessed with USDA beef offals, the beef organs over noodle here was absolutely fabulous.

If you frown on eating animal organs because of the gamey taste, you can rest assure there’s none in this well stewed array of beef organs. Everything was bite-tender, and the rich stew flavours permeated in every bite.

Usually, these noodle shops only serve the tripes and some of the stomachs, but at Hon’s the other rare parts like oesophagus and lungs are available too. Ask for more sauce if you want to get the noodles soaking the deliciousness.
雲吞水餃湯 Wun-Tun & Dumpling Soup

As I got dry noodles, I could not help but order a separate serving go wontons and dumplings. So what’s the different? The filling are similar, but dumplings are a meal on their own and much larger.
蠔油芥蘭遠 Chinese Broccoli in Oyster Sauce

They got everything right, down to the cheapskate oyster sauce with the blanched Hong Kong kailan.

Queue forms quickly during lunchtime, but it’s an eat-and-go place, so the turnover of tables is very quick. Excellent for a nutritious and delicious bowl of wonton noodles.
