Everyone going to Hong Kong these days wants an egg tart from Bakehouse or Hashtag B to post on Instagram or Weibo; I did not get an egg tart.
Hashtag B is a popular bakery chain that provides modern twists on classic Hong Kong baked goods. The chain prides itself on being health conscious and uses minimal salt and sugar in their products, but their baked goods are nothing short of flavourful.
Hashtag B offers a variety of colourful, Instagrammable bread and pastries. They’re best known for their Napoleon mille-feuille tarts which have a flaky pastry base and a rich egg custard centre, along with other irresistible treats like pineapple buns and swirled bread loafs. The tarts are only available after 11am, so I was too early that day to try.
I bought a couple of croissants (not flaky and buttery), a couple of Danishes (quite good, especially the butter sugar roll), and this pineapple bun with real pineapple on it.
I don’t understand why the crazy trend of this bakery. It wasn’t the best I had in Hong Kong or anywhere. Somewhat everyone decides to “punch card” 打卡 with it. And now I have done it too, I am not returning.
