Place to Watch Christmas Fireworks in Hong Kong

There are several fireworks in Hong Kong a year that are worth a trip to go watch it from the waterfront. If you are not in the mood to squeeze with ten of thousands of others, here’s a place that may be great to catch the fireworks and have a good meal at the same time.

It’s Christmas in Hong Kong, and there’s going to be fireworks at West Kowloon off the coast of West Kowloon Cultural Centre. And there’s a carnival as well to let people wee their time while they wait for nightfall and watch the spectacular along the waterfront. I am told there’s an alternative location to watch it.

This place is rather difficult to find, and hence we could still get a table despite calling only 2 hours before the appointed time. But what a view from this balcony!

CaN LaH is a Singaporean-Malaysian restaurant taken care by Singaporean celebrity chef Francis Chong Wui Choong. The dishes are not only creative, but carrying a rich Singaporean flavour due to his insistence on importing ingredients and secret sauces locally sourced from Singapore. We ordered a couple of dishes while we waited for the fireworks.

Singaporean Katong Shrimp Laksa 新加坡加東鮮蝦湯喇沙

I am quite impressed with the authenticity of the laksa. While it is not exactly Katong laksa, it is one of the best ones that I have tasted so far in Hong Kong. The only missing ingredient is cockles. It would be perfect if there’s cockles.

Sambal Clams 叁峇炒蜆

OK, the clams were not fantastic because they were not fresh and too small in size.

Penang Seafood Char Kway Teow 檳城海鮮鴨蛋炒貴刁

Supposed to be stir-fried with duck eggs, but I couldn’t taste the difference. And it’s not like Penang style where the fish sauce taste is more pronounced.

Sambal Kang Kong With Dried Shrimp 馬來風光

They nailed it for the sambal kang kong, both the crunchiness of the vegetable as well as the sambal.

I would not purposely come for the food, maybe only when I have a proper craving for laksa. The view is one of the better ones around.
