Wheeler’s Estate @ Seletar

Brotherhood gathering, need food and drinks and good music that we can relate to.

With a tranquil atmosphere set amidst a vibrant oasis of nature & rustic charm in the daytime, it’s the perfect ambiance for picturesque brunches and lunches. But after sundown, Wheeler’s Estate gets ready to jam out to your favourite local bands while you enjoy dinner and drinks.

Buttermilk Fried Shrimp

Tom Yum Aioli, Green Papaya Salad & Togarashi

They disappeared as fast as you can say buttermilk fried shrimp. The mayonnaise has been spiked with tom yum paste for that distinct taste. The green papaya salad at the bottom was a good touch. But there’s always that one person that does not like lemongrass.

Flash Fried CalamarI

Tom Yum Aioli, Salsa Fresca & Lime

We ordered a second appetiser that would not raise any objections from anyone. Salt and pepper calamari flash fried for that crispiness and tenderness at the same time with the same aioli on the base of the plate.

Wheeler’s Signature “Tomahawk” 1.3kg

Herb Roasted Potatoes, Broccolini, Petite Bell Peppers, Roasted Garlic, Chimichurri & Beef Jus

Meat (and lots of it) was the order of the day to go with our beers. And the 1.3kg Tomahawk stood out among everything else on the menu. The tomahawk steak resembles the Native American tomahawk axe from which it gets its name. It is simply a rib eye steak which the butcher left the rib bone intact, french trimmed and at least five inches long from the steak.

Most steak connoisseurs agree, the rib-eye is the ultimate steak. It offers the perfect balance of flavour and tenderness, and it’s ideal for grilling, broiling, and searing. No other cut of steak can satisfy carnivorous cravings in quite the same way. And the bone was perfect for my furry kid to gnaw on.

It came with a portion of grilled potatoes, broccolini, petite bell peppers, and garlic. It was meagre portion but nobody was caring for vegetable that evening. The garlic was really good, I recommend that you crush some of those mushy garlic on your steak for more flavours.

The aroma of specially imported jarrah, apple and lychee firewood used for grilling the Tomahawk steak on an open pit fire was a nice touch. The doneness was perfectly executed at medium rare, with the burnt ends that can only be achieved with open fire.

Truffle Fries

Truffle Oil, Parmesan, Parsley & Truffle Aioli

As the night drew on, we ordered a side of truffle fries to munch on, and it didn’t disappoint. Well salted and well spiced with that hint of truffle oil, it was perfect with the truffle infused aioli.

Overall a wonderful evening of food, drinks and company. The band wasn’t that great though, but they had their own ajumma fan base that was on hand to cheer them on. Band schedule on their website if you want to see others.
