Anti:dote @ City Hall

Usually I would not bring an underaged kid to a bar. But Anti:dote serves a really innovative and delicious afternoon tea that one has to bring the little ones to come and try.

Chic

During the normal hours (after 5pm), Anti:dote is a stylish and modern cocktail bar with a progressive selection of concoctions that appeals to the most discerning taste buds. Combining the craftsmanship of traditional bartending and the artistry of experimental mixology techniques, classic recipes are reinterpreted with contemporary flair. At Anti:dote, drinks crafted with premium spirits and housemade bitters, liqueurs and sodas are paired perfectly with innovative modern tapas. But I digressed. The afternoon tea was what we came for.

The Afternoon Tea

Afternoon tea is about kicking back and enjoying the finer things in life. A I was watching my weight, my princess and I decided to share one order, which they kindly allowed if you are coming with a minor.

First you can choose from over 30 types of tea from TWG to start with.

Easter afternoon tea

The whole presentation of the afternoon tea came in an unusual chest of drawers instead of the usual layered trays. Because princess was still a minor, we can get away with ordering just one portion. Usually you would have to order one portion for each tai-tai enjoying the afternoon tea.

And then it opened up to show all the goodies inside. The variety in the set is seasonal, This was the Easter Afternoon Tea that was available between 19-27 March 2016. Each afternoon tea set comes with:

  • one appetiser
  • 8 sweets and pastries
  • 5 savouries and 2 scones or sweet buns
  • 3 types of spread
  • a coffee or tea

Black truffle scrambled eggs

Black truffle scrambled eggs – I thought it was a real egg shell that they used to present the scrambled eggs. It turned out to be a moulded porcelain egg shell. The scrambled egg was creamy and topped with black truffle shavings. Two small slides of perfectly golden toast (remember we ordered only a single serve) were given to dip into the egg like your breakfast half-boiled egg.

If you just look at one of the savoury, like Boston lobster, pickled cucumber, dill, carrot bunny brioche, it was a play on the lobster roll but a special easter bunny brioche was made to hold the goodies.

Pink Frog strawberry

You can see the love put into each piece of sweet. The “Pink Frog” strawberry alone had so many elements that it was so difficult to just eat it.

Easter hot cross scones

Easter hot cross scones – two scones, one made to resemble a hot-cross bun but with raisins in it, and the other the traditional English scone. Very fluffy inside, and buttery and crumbly on the crust. Perfect.

Raspberry jam, Devonshire clotted cream, homemade lemon curd

Raspberry jam, Devonshire clotted cream, homemade lemon curd – I did not liked any of the accompaniments to the scones. I find the clotted cream too runny and jam was watery. The lemon curd was OK, but I didn’t like lemon curd.

As part of the afternoon tea, homemade cookies were given to extend the fuzzy feeling when you are finished here.

Even the chocolate shake was made like a cocktail. The service was good, very classy way to waste time in the afternoon.

For afternoon tea, reservation is required. And don’t even try to walk-in because they made exactly the number of sets based on the number of reservations. Be prepared to spend $50++ for one person. Atas!
