There’s a bit fo rejuvenation in Causeway Point with the opening of the several new MRT stations and the upcoming new malls around the area. Several shops were closed and it their places are fancy new restaurants (strangely, all of them Japanese). Today, we try the aburi-don restaurant.
All the beef used in Aburi-en are A4/A5 Miyazaki Wagyu 宫崎牛. However do not expect the best cuts of the beef so you still get a fair bit of veins and muscles in the meat served.
However, the prices you pay for the set lunch or don will definitely be value for money as the portions are generous. You can upgrade the dons with add-ons – I recommend the onsen egg and Hokkaido-sourced ikura to give the don additional oomph.
The sides are very good as well. We really enjoyed the aburi mentaiko, a whole spicy cod roe torched to produce that smoky taste, as well as the outstanding garlic edamame. I will definitely go get a blowtorch and try aburi myself.
The taste is standard Japanese fast food, where the sauces are all manufactured and therefore quite monotonous. Service is prompt so it is expected to turn the tables as quickly as possible.
