Lockdown means one is deprived of dining at a good restaurant and being served. I could not resisted when the “Circuit Breaker” was lifted and finally you can dine in. There are some things that cannot be cooked at home, and steak is one of them.
I went to Bedrock Bar & Grill many years ago when they were newly opened, attracted by their Tomahawk steaks. Bedrock’s signature items from the ala carte menu for dinner includes the Ribeye Cap Steak, Dry-Aged USDA Prime Ribeye and Tomahawk Steak, complemented with steakhouse classic sides such as Mac n’ Cheese, and Truffle Mashed Potatoes. Their steaks are cooked over an applewood fired grill for that special smoky flavour.
The Set Lunch
Their 3-course set lunches offer three choices of steaks – a tenderloin, a sirloin and a beef bowl of sliced petit filet. And there’s also fish, lamb, burgers.

Once you placed the order, you are served with warm toasted pita bread with garlic confit and butter.

The garlic has been over grilled with a liberal amount of olive oil until mushy and you can spread the soft as butter cloves of garlic together with the butter in the pita. Simply out of this world yummy if you like garlic like I do.
Char-Grilled Baby Gem
bacon, heirloom tomatoes, parmesan

Baby romaine lettuce has been cut in quarters length wise and grilled on its sides. And on the beautifully charred lettuce, thick-cut pan-fried bacon and the drippings are mixed with heirloom tomatoes, shaved parmesan cheese and baby beets, mesclun and completed with glazed balsamic vinegar.

The salad is simply beautiful. I definitely will try making this at the next BBQ party in the house.
Truffle Mushroom Soup
chive cream

This may seem like a boring choice. Princess was so tired of mushroom soup and opted for the salad. But when she tasted the truffle flavoured mushroom soup, she could not help but to share the soup with me. The chive and cream added to the rich flavours of the mushroom soup. It is not indicated as a vegan choice, I can only assumed there may be some beef stock in there.
Woodfire-Grilled Ribeye Steak
fries, thyme butter

Princess chose the ribeye for a tenderer cut and also for the sides of shoestring fries. The fries were crispy and hot, salted just nicely.
Woodfire-Grilled Tenderloin
foie gras, shallot sauce, potatoes and onions

I went for the whole works, and a beefier cut of tenderloin. It came with a slice of pan fried foie gras with shallot sauce.

But the surprise was under the steak. The medium rare steak was resting on a delicious bed of stir-fried sliced potatoes with caramelised onions and baby spinach.

The whole combination was well-worth the price we paid as the steaks were done properly. However, they were swimming in their own drippings and au jus, I would prefer a drier presentation.
Sticky Stout & Toffee Pudding
gingernut ice cream

Sweets, but the berries were really sour.
Burnt Cheese Cake

I like the cheesecake, but again have to turn away the berries.
Bedrock Bar and Grill
It is quite discrete, quietly situated at the exit from 313 Somerset, just before you enter into Pan Pacific Serviced Apts. From the façade it looks like a small outdoor bar belonging to a hotel, but as you are led further in, reveals a modern and cosy L.A style restaurant.
A good steak is more about the origin of the meat and they dry age the beef in house, a rarity in 2008 when they first opened.
The Bar
Bedrock Bar carries a stunning collection of traditional whisky from around the world. They also carry a fine selection of wine to go with the steaks. Too bad I am not a drinker anymore.
The Grill

Bedrock Grill has been a fine place to get your bovine fix in town. There’re of course other fine and finer choices like CUT, Bedrock is always special to me for introducing me to the tomahawk steak. I had that amazing tomahawk more than 10 years ago to this day and that experience has not been forgotten. But I also remembered the damage we made to the expense account that night, but what the heck, it was a night of great steaks and fine wines.
Since then the team that runs Bedrock has changed, it is more accessible and because of Covid, a shorter waiting list. The service is attentive even we were there for their set lunch specials. I would recommend Bedrock for that special night out.
