Searock Grill @ Sydney

With the twin icons of Sydney slugging it out for one’s affection, Circular Quay attracts tourists like a moth to a flame. Understandably for places like this it is a target for less scrupulous businesses but Searock Grill does not fall into this category.

Searock Grill features an outdoor seating area, allowing you to eat and drink with expansive harbour views. With Sydney Harbour Bridge as its backdrop, Searock Grill is conveniently located minutes away from Circular Quay’s main landmarks and attractions

We were surprised to find Happy Hour pricing on fish & chips, burgers and beers at 4.30 pm – very reasonably priced for such a great location.  But after happy hours, all things change. The moment we sat down, we were taken aback by the price. A$49 for a steak, $26 for fish and chips – no wonder most of the other tables ordered fish and chips.

1/ Seafood – Indulgence platter

Indulgence platter

Whole WA lobster, Crystal Bay prawns, Sydney rock oysters, Tasmanian black mussels, Blue swimmer crabs & Moreton Bay Bugs, 1/2 shell scallops, served chilled

Platter was on the small side, just enough for two. And there’s only half a lobster

2/ Mains – Scotch fillet 250g, grain fed, Victoria

Pinnacle is a grass fed & free range program – free to roam the abundance of pastures ensures maximum nutritional qualities.

The steak was a bit dry, but flavourful. One problem of sitting outside is that the food gets cold very quickly. Great for the seafood platter to remain chilled, not so good for the steak.

3/ Sides – Tomato, basil & feta salad

Heirloom tomatoes, fresh basil, Tasmanian feta

I am weight-wathcing and the waiter was kind enough to swap the fries and salad for a premium side. The tomatoes were delicious.

Afterwards

The restaurant is a bit pricey, however, you are also paying for the view of the Sydney Harbor and Bridge, which was quite lovely. The restaurant is a 6-minute walk to the Sydney Opera House and just 4 minutes to the Manley Ferry. So you are definitely in a touristy environment. Overall a decent place and I didn’t regret going. May or may not go back again. Just be aware that there’s a surcharge on the weekends.
