Lunch at Tanjong Pagar series come to Korean today. And there are so many Korean restaurants in the neighbourhood, and many of them are among the very best in Singapore.
Mimi 미미 비비큐 is located just below our office. They are famous for the Squid Game Pink Soldier standing outside their restaurant and their BBQ buffet and 보족세트 (보쌈 + 족발) Bojok Set (Bosam + Jokbal) and 감자탕 Gamjatang. But we came today for their Korean BBQ.
No meal in a Korean restaurant (or at least the ones in Singapore) is complete without their 반찬 banchan or small side dishes that are served with steamed white rice. I was already full just from eating these refillable appetisers.
The BBQ stove was different from the usual one that only allowed for grilling of meat. This one had troughs to grill egg omelette or to melt cheese for a dip.
Their meat platter was quite generous for their portion. This was for 2-3 pax, but it was enough to feed 6 of us, particularly for lunch and after all those banchan. Unfortunately with a shortage for manpower, we had to grill the meat ourselves, and be prepared to smell for it afterwards.
감자탕 Gamjatang or pork back-bone stew is a spicy Korean soup made from the spine or neck bones of a pig. It often contains potatoes, cellophane noodles, dried radish greens, perilla leaves, green onions, hot peppers and ground sesame seeds. The vertebrae were chopped to pieces with bits of meat clinging to them. They were boiled until the flesh and marrow just fell off the bones without effort and you can enjoy a rich broth with soft meat. And they will top up the broth upon request.
The food was value-for-money, and a good place to share an office meal with colleagues without breaking the bank.
