Georges @ Sydney

After a whole week of lamb chops and steaks, I was ready for something else. Mediterranean seafood done in the Greek style.

Wonderful evening in Sydney CBD

We walked to King’s Wharf from the CBD in the first dry evening after a wet week of drizzling nights in Sydney. Most of the restaurants were fully booked. We only managed to find a table here at Georges Mediterranean Bar & Grill. We were so hungry so we picked a few items and settled down for dinner.

Sydney Rock Oysters

Sydney Rock Oysters

Big, creamy, plump freshly shucked oysters. Enough said.

White taramosalata, sour dough

White taramosalata, sour dough

Taramosalata is a Greek style caviar spread made from the salted roe of carp or cod with olive oil, lemon juice, grated onions and bread or potato for starch. Its salty umami is perfect with toast.

Grilled sardines

Wonderful grilled sardines, and that got me looking forward to the mains.

Greek style lamb, lemon & oregano potatoes

My colleague thought it was really well done. The lamb was fork tender and fell of the bone easily.

Greek Seafood Feast

Greek Seafood Feast

After the grilled sardines, I was anticipating the main to come.

  • Chargrilled octopus, kipfler potatoes, green olives parsley, lemon
  • Grilled 1/2 shell scallops herb butter
  • Market fresh fish (snapper) served with house made chips
  • Prawn soulavki

That’s a generous serving of grilled seafood, but it was not all fantastically done. The octopus was chewy. The scallops were hard. The shrimps was dry. The fish was the only nice thing on the plate.

Georges Green Salad

Georges Green Salad

As simple as it gets, rough cuts of cucumber, tomatoes, pitted olives, red onions served a slab of feta cheese and dressed with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. It came as part of the sharing seafood platter.

Pastelli wafers, honey, ricotta, poached peach

Pastelli wafers, honey, ricotta, poached peach

It tasted like a deep fried spring roll filled with ricotta cheese. The poached peach was quite tasteless. The honey gelato was the only saving grace

Pistachio and chocolate baklava rolls

Pistachio and chocolate baklava rolls

Forget about the baklava, they were quite moist and not crumbly. The layers of filo just got stuck together.

I finally knew why it was empty. It was not at all good.
