First Time Banquet in Bali

First time in Bali and I had a chance of experiencing a banquet, and it turned out to be a Chinese style eight-course banquet. Sigh.

The dinner was held at Jimbaran Grand Ballroom that can accommodate guest up to a maximum of 1000 people. The catering was done by Professor Restaurant. The restaurant started as a hotpot place with live seafood tanks. It then became associated to be one of the best Chinese/Cantonese seafood restaurant in Bali. And the food is Halal.

The deep fried shrimp ball that was decorated like a lychee was quite interesting. The sautéed squid and celery was something I had not tried for a long time. And jellyfish salad with whelk meat was quite delicious.

Also called the Soon Hock 順殼, marbled goby is commonly found in the brackish waters of Southeast Asia. But these days they are farmed for their smooth and taste flesh.

I have not had this dish for many years already – it was one of most popular dish in tzechar and outdoor banquets bentoh 辦桌 or 外燴. Sliced mushrooms in a sticky oyster sauce, very nostalgic.

I didn’t take picture of the dessert because it looked like something from an alien movie.

Competent Chinese cuisine, but I don’t think I will be returning here anytime soon.
