I always stay around the famous traffic circle downtown Jakarta for its proximity to all good food (and my meeting places of course). And I would go local most of the time, this was one of the rare moment I went along other cuisine.

Occupying a large corner space of Grand Indonesia. the mall to be seen in Central Jakarta, Social House has three main zones – the dining area, a bar and lounge area, and the wine display and store.

Designed by local architect Willis Kusuma, the interior of Social House embraces a casual and comforting aesthetic. The interior design features the extensive use of blonde timbers for ceiling and wall panelling, and also much of the furniture and display shelving.

Glass, steel and raw concrete materials are utilised to evoke an “industrial chic” style. Green touches- such as a number of sizeable living trees- soften the space and provide a sense of nature and home.
prawn cakwe
The kitchen at Social House serves an eclectic mix of Western and Asian “comfort food” dishes- offering hearty portions prepared from the finest fresh ingredients. There are some familiar Indonesian favourites but with a twist of other cuisines mixed in.

Like this prawn cakwe; in Indonesia, the fried dough (commonly known as youtiao in Singapore) is known as cakwe, which is commonly sliced and added to bubur (porridge) in the morning. But here they deployed the Chinese way of stuffing minced prawn into the cavity of the fritter and deep fried them. It is then topped with tangy mango mayo and ikura.
deep fried calamari
sweet & sour sriracha, crispy garlic, lime leaf, chilli

While the deep fried calamari was a staple in most pubs and bars, this one was coated with salted egg powder. And instead of mayo or tartar sauce, it was paired with a sweet and sour sriracha. Good snack.
wagyu pho bo
Vietnamese rice noodles soup, wagyu short ribs, fresh basil, coriander

And if you moved further down the list on the Asian side, you would see the Vietnamese pho bo making its appearance, upgraded with sliced wagyu beef.

I could not make out what we ordered here, but it was a seasonal special.
kura kura ale

A slow-drinking pale ale brewed right here in Bali, Kura Kura ale is packed with fruity aromas and goes down super easy.
Social House is solidly busy at all stages of the day and evening, attracting a diverse range of customers, from office workers taking breakfast before work, shoppers from the mall stopping in for a coffee or lunch, and an after-work crowd for drinks at the bar, or a full dining experience.
