A dining experience where culinary artistry and breathtaking views come together. One of my favourite restaurants in San Francisco.
McCormick & Kuleto’s Seafood & Steaks is located in San Francisco’s historic Ghirardelli Square with expansive views of the San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz Island, Aquatic Park, Angel Island and the marina from the dining room.
Once seated, I ordered an Aromatized & Smoked cocktail made from Maker’s Mark 46 Bourbon, Carpano Antica Sweet Vermouth, Filthy Black Cherry Syrup.
The cocktail tasted like a Manhattan, but it was the experience of seeing the cocktail finished at table side that was the attraction.
Seafood Tower
The first time I came, I had a chilled seafood platter all by myself, in addition to a sirloin steak and a bottle of wine. This time, I ordered the Seafood Tower because it was so luxurious and my darling was with me to enjoy 2x chilled poached lobster, 8x chilled boiled shrimp, 6x freshly shucked oysters, served with Bay shrimp cocktail sauce.
Dungeness crab and fennel salad, Hawaiian ahi poke, Alaskan crab leg with green apple salad (two each) decked the lower level. The tower was for four, but only two of us to finish everything. The oysters were a disappointment, one of them had turned rancid.
New England Clam Chowder
Now for something warm after all those cold food. The New England Clam Chowder was choked full of clams, potato and bacon bits, but I still prefer the one at Boudin Bakery down the street at Fisherman’s Wharf.
The first time I came (almost 30 years ago), I left with fantastic memories. It was pricey, and I remembered I spent quite a fortune back then for a meal here. It was still pricey this time round. The service was polished and we enjoyed a good meal with an excellent view of the San Francisco bay. Skip the desserts and go for a hot chocolate fudge at the next door Ghirardelli cafe.
When you reserve a table, ask for the window-side table. Alternatively as for one of the raised booth that would offer the same view.
