Songdo-Idong-Galbi 송도이동갈비 @ Seoul

I was visiting a nearby city 2 hours from Seoul called Anyang, and it was time for dinner. The business partner brought me to this Korean BBQ place near his office.

Songdo Galbi is a chain Korean BBQ restaurant is owned by Shinhwa (神话) Food Group.

It features a clean and modern interior, making it an ideal restaurant for family gatherings and special occasions.

Private rooms are also available without additional costs.

Not only must the meat excellent for Korean BBQ, but the charcoal is also carefully selected to be most suitable for barbecue – even heat discharge and constant amber. The best charcoal is matched with top meat to achieve the best taste.

Once a chef in Korea refuted me when I asked for lettuce and perilla leaves to wrap my KBBQ. He said that for Hanwoo (Korean bred cattle), they would eat them as is without any dips or wraps, maybe just with sprinkle of salt. So I chuckled when I saw the plate of ssam 쌈.

Galbitang 갈비탕, or boiled short rib soup, is a very common and popular Korean soup. The clear and hearty soup is made by slowly simmering galbi or beef short ribs in water for a long time and is eaten as a meal. It’s a hearty, nourishing soup with a delicately clean taste.

It has been a while since I had sujeonggwa. When I went to the KBBQ in Singapore, this was last item they would serve (together with cut heart-shaped watermelon) with the bill. Very sweet, it was supposed to aid digestion.

The food was good and reasonable priced, and they have restaurant in Seoul as well. The service was prompt, but I am afraid no one spoke English. There was one person that spoke Mandarin, but the menu is available in 2 languages (KR/EN). When all things fail, just point and order.
