One week in New Delhi and I needed something familiar and comforting. Chinese in India was almost always rubbish, so I stuck to Italian.

In Westin hotels around the world, Prego is always the go-to Italian restaurant in the property, and very often represent one of the better Italian restaurant in the city. I have been to the ones in Singapore, Shanghai and now Gurgoan, they have not disappoint.

Prego is rustic yet refined, rooted in tradition infused with fresh herbs and spices. The specialty Italian restaurant at The Westin Gurgaon has a new menu curated by their new Chef De Cuisine Davide Di Domenico.
Our Italian Lunch Menu

The freshly baked bread was deliciously soft and moist. The accompanying lemon butter and paprika spread were also outstanding. Maybe because I was so hungry and this was the first Western style meal I had in a week.
Antipasto Misto Di Salumi E Formaggi
Melange of Italian cured meat and cheese served with pickles

While we were waiting for my guests to arrive, we ordered an antipasto of Italian ham and cheeses to snack on.
Seabass Carpaccio
Pacific seabass carpaccio, guacamole sauce, green apple, croutons, yogurt, lime and coriander

After the guests arrived and we all placed our orders for the main course, I added a seabass carpaccio, knowing the risk I was taking. It wasn’t the best carpaccio by any measure because it was quite dry (not enough dressing), but at least the seabass was fresh.
Ravioli alla Parmigiana
Crispy ravioli stuffed with eggplant parmigiana, rich tomato sauce, parmesan fondue and basil pesto

I ordered a vegetarian ravioli, which was the Chef’s specialty. It was very good. The sauce was spot on while each parcel of ravioli had a good measure of roasted eggplant and parmesan cheese in it.
Salmon and Polenta
Baked norwegian salmon fillet, crispy truffle polenta, carrot and coconut puree, orange and herbs

My guest, an elderly and simple man, didn’t know what to order; it was his first Italian restaurant. I hoped he liked this salmon that i picked for him.
Seabass a “la Scapece”
Slow cooked seabass, yellow and green zucchini, black olives and chilli pepper

My colleague picked the Chef’s specialty, seabass a “la Scapece”. “A Scapece” is a two-step method of preparing vegetables. First, le verdure (vegetables) are fried, then marinated in vinegar overnight. Here, the zucchini was simply cured in olive oil while the fish was sous vide in a poaching liquid. I was having plate envy, as it looked so delicious.
TiramiSuper
Homemade cocoa savoiardi, mascarpone espuma, coffee and kahlua gel, coffee ice-cream, cocoa powder

Finally, dessert was a deconstructed tiramisu. Wonderful end to a rather enjoyable meal.

The food is delicious, the staff pleasant and the ambience good.
