Wanglu Hot Pot 旺爐 @ CWP

This corner of Causeway Point in Woodlands has seen many casualties over the years – Original Boat Noodle, Penang Delights, Monster Curry, etc. The new kid on the block is a hot pot restaurant.

This hot pot restaurant is called Wanglu Hot Pot, although it is called City Hot Pot elsewhere. The concept is very simple – order a soup base, all their pots are single serve so everyone has to order one, no sharing; pick the ingredients you want from the a la carte list or simply order a set. And like all Chinese hot pot these days, they have a wonderful condiment bar that you can go and make your own blend of sauces.

Soup + staple + sauce 汤底 +主食 + 酱料

We picked a set for four persons (Set G) that came with four soup bases. You pay extra for the premium soup base like laksa and bak kut teh, and you pay slightly more a double soup pot 鸳鸯锅. And the set came with a staple for each person, so we each picked one; I selected the 福建咸蛋肉粽 Hokkien salted egg rice dumpling, and it was quite good actually.

The set came with everything imaginable from the menu, seafood platter, yong tau foo, vegetable platter, mushroom platter and my favourite, the minced fish paste and pork paste.

Wagyu ribeye + lamb leg + pork belly + liver + cockle + lobster 2pcs 和牛肋眼肉＋精选羊肉＋五花猪＋猪肝＋鲜蛤 + 龙虾2只

And for proteins, it came with 2 rock lobsters cut into halves, beef, pork, lamb and even cockles. All these for less than $80 per person.

Reservation recommended or else the queue forms really quickly. I hope this one can last longer as it is a good alternative to On-Yasai Shabu Shabu buffet next door, which has been there forever.
