Went to this Cantonese restaurant in Hyatt Centric for yumcha with my old friend.

The Mandarin House is a hidden gem for Cantonese cuisine in North Point located right next to the elevator that goes up to the rooms in Hyatt Centric. We came for their dim sum lunch, as I kept seeing the nearby residents come here to yumcha.
Dim Sum Lunch
Pig Liver Rice Rolls 豬膶腸粉

It’s quite easy to get this rice roll 腸粉 wrong, as the temperature control and time control are critical to get the pig liver 豬潤 texture between raw or rubber. They nailed it, however the ends were overcooked.
Roasted Pork Belly 燒腩仔

This roasted pork belly 燒腩仔 was a complete flop though. The crackling was soggy, not crispy, and the meat was very dry.
Pan Fried Radish Cake with Dried Scallops 金柱香煎蘿蔔糕

The radish cake 蘿蔔糕 (which we wrongly called it carrot cake in Singapore) was quite tasty, but it could do a bit more pan frying.
Steamed Bean Curd Sheet Roll Stuffed With Chicken And Ham 四寶滑雞扎

Chicken tofu skin roll 四寶雞扎 is a classic dim sum that is seldom found in restaurants these days. This version wasn’t very authentic. Fung Shing Restaurant 鳳城酒家 down the road serves a much better version.
Black Truffle Pork and Shrimp Siumai 黑松露豬肉燒賣

The black truffle was totally unnecessary. But the siumai was quite tasty.
Steamed Chicken and Glutinous Rice with Dried Scallops 瑤柱珍珠雞

What’s the difference between lomaigai 糯米雞 and pearl chicken 珍珠雞? According to the debate on the internet, it’s the size – lomaigai is bigger and the original, but because it was too filling as a dim sum, the small pearl chicken version was invented.

So the lomaigai in Singapore is wrongly named, as they should be pearl chicken. And their pearl chicken was quite pathetic, very little filling.
Egg White & Almond Milk 蛋白杏仁茶

We finished the lunch with a bowl of almond milk with egg white in it. I prefer the ones without the egg white, though it was more fragrant with egg white.

Food in general is above-average. Service, however, is a huge let-down. Basically no one takes care of you after taking the order, which was alright for us as we were busy catching up. Price is reasonable.
