Good Eats

Le Mansion 樂满軒 @ SRC

Le Mansion is now our family’s go to restaurant when we are not cooking on the weekends.

Le Mansion 樂满軒 is located on the second floor of Singapore Recreation Club at the Padang. The club is a member-only social club that has a long history. The restaurant has moved to the left corner of the 2nd floor where Barker’s Lounge used to be. The private rooms still have the view of the Padang.

港式點心 Hong Kong Dim Sum

We had a few dim sum items while we waited for the rest of the courses to come.

香煎萝卜丝饺 Pan-fried Pork & Radish Dumpling, Shanghainese Style

This is the first time I come across this style of dumpling, not in Shanghai. I guess the only Shanghainese about this dumpling is its size. I wouldn’t classify it as a good eat as the filling did not match the skin; it tasted like a soft spring roll.

佛山海蜇熏蹄 Rice Wine Marinated Sliced Pork Knuckle with Jellyfish

Cold marinated pork hock 熏蹄 is a common dim sum item in Hong Kong that has gained popularity in Singapore recently for the gelatinous skin of the pork knuckle.

Jellyfish 海蜇 is one of my favourite dish because of its texture. But this appetiser has almost disappeared from the modern menu. It is usually served as a salad of thinly shredded cucumber, celery, mixed with shredded jellyfish, sugar, vinegar, fresh chilli peppers, sesame oil and fish sauce.

端午廣東肉粽 Cantonese-style Dragonboat Festival Dumpling

It was almost Duanwu or Dragonboat Festival, when we remember the patriotic poet Qu Yuan 屈原 by eating rice dumplings. Restaurants jump onto the bandwagon, or “dragonboat”, and come out with different styles of dumplings.

Besides the usual shiitake mushroom, salted egg yolk, pork and chestnut, I was surprised by the mung beans among the filling. Didn’t like it either.

姜葱澳洲龙虾伊麵底 Ginger & Spring Onion Australian Lobster with E-fu Noodles

And for our final dish, the main course of 姜葱澳洲龙虾伊麵底 ginger & spring onion Australian lobster with e-fu noodles. Since I knew this was going to be good, I asked for more sauce and more noodles because the ginger and scallion lobster was delicious.

This is the third Chinese restaurant to operate at this location in Singapore Recreation Club (SRC) since 2020. It has overtaken Fu Lin Men as the nicest Chinese restaurant to be operating in the club. It has the service team at the front of the house used to be from Fu Lin Men, so the service was impeccable.
