It used to be The Morrison, but after a recent renovation, it’s now called Morrison’s – it remains still a Bar and Oyster Room.

From the minute you walk in you feel that you are somewhere special. Morrison’s occupy the old Brooklyn Hotel at the corner of Grosvenor Street, very close to the Sydney Harbour. It is very bright with lots of natural light.
Autumn Menu 2025
Oysters Natural, Lemon & Mignonette

This is foremost an oyster bar set in an older brick building. On ice were Sydney rock oysters, freshly shucked to order. We love the freshly shucked oysters. The oysters were very good, but expensive.
Steak Tartare, Marrow Butter Toast

The steak tartare was a classic starter and came with a decadent bone marrow butter toast. Could do with slightly more Worcestershire sauce and less capers.
Baked Shark Bay Scallop, Vadouvan Butter

Vadouvan curry originated in the French-influenced region of Puducherry, India, blending Indian spices with French culinary techniques in the 19th century. Shark Bay scallops are sustainable fishery from WA. They went well with the curry butter, but I would prefer more Chinese style cooking with them.
Morrison’s Burger 180g, Maple Cured Bacon, Cheese, Lettuce , Dill Pickle, Horseradish Mayonnaise, Fries

The signature Morrison’s burger featuring a 180g patty of dry aged Angus beef, down from the previous hefty weight of 250g. Also gone was the thick cut bacon, and replaced with the more manageable maple smoked streaky bacon.

The meat patty was juicy and well-seasoned. And a burger is meant to be messy, and what a mess it was.

I had lunch there and it was very crowded with mostly office lunch workers from the nearby CBD offices. This is the place to get a juicy burger with perfect chips; it’s not cheap for a burger but definitely a great burger.

This is an up market eatery, not a small local pub. At the end of the day, the meals are inventive and probably worth the money (although they are pricey). Very friendly service that kind of reminds one of a NY vibe. Nice place to sit at the table along the pavement, get a drink and watch the world go by.
