Prego is the in-house Italian restaurant in the Westin around the region. Westin Stamford has been sold to Fairmont, but Prego restaurant still remains.

Prego was my favourite Italian restaurant during our school days, as they used to open 24 hours and we would go after our band practice and share a pizza and free flow of ciabatta bread baked fresh. Then my family would go there at lease once a month for our Italian fix.

The hotel was sold to Fairmont, they changed their format slightly to include an antipasti bar and more secondi. But since they renovated and reduced their menu, we have not been back until now.

Prego has separate lunch and dinner menus. The main kitchen is closed between 3-5pm, where only appetisers and pizzas are available. We went for lunch so the choices were limited.
Guancia

Guancia is the Italian word for cheek. This dish is a red wine braised beef cheek, served on a bed of mashed potatoes, and sprinkled with Jerusalem artichokes chips.

The beef cheek was fork-tender, with the right amount of sauce that was not overwhelming the taste of the beef and the silky smooth mash. The snow peas were too raw for my taste. The Jerusalem artichoke chips were outstanding.
Cotto o Carciofini

Pizzas at Prego are always a treat, as the pizza is made a la minute with the best ingredients. Cotto o Carciofini is a tomato sauce based pizza that features cooked ham (prosciutto cotto) and baby artichoke hearts (carciofini) topped with mozzarella cheese.

The crust used the same flour as the ciabatta, and made to same texture. IMHO, they should make a crusty base instead of this thick crust. The ingredients were great. If the crust can be improved, you would get a perfect pizza.

American Express Platinum Card holders dine for free as part of their dining privileges, so when two of us eat here, one dine for free as long as we each order a main course.
