Alchemist Beer Lab @ Beach Road

To celebrate my princess finishing her first milestones in her life-long learning journey, we decided to celebrate, and best celebratory beverage is beer!!

No, I am not feeding my twelve year old a beer. That’s too low. I will give her champagne.

From the folks behind Little Island Brewing Co in Changi Village comes Alchemist Beer Lab, Asia’s first-of-its-kind beer-infused bar that allow the brewers to introduce any type of ingredient into their beers, like pomegranate, salted plum and star anise.

Tasting Flight

Tasting Flight (R-L) : Naked Lager, Whiter Shade of Pale Ale, Sister Golden Ale, That Old Black Magic Stout.

What I really liked were the stout and the pale ale. The others were so so. Given the quality of he beer, I would try the infused ones the next time.

Smoked Duck Liver Parfait

Smoked Duck Liver Parfait, foie gras, calvados jelly, sourdough petals, green apple, roselle jam – there were not enough parfait and a lot of bread.

Peruvian Ceviche

Peruvian ceviche, citrus, api amarillo, habanero marinated red snapper with a shot of pisco – The way to consume this ceviche is to pour the contents of the 2 shot glasses, one of which is actually a shot of pisco, together with the small ladle of habanero pepper into the jar, and shake the contents till the colour of the mixture turns orangey-red! Then scoop the snapper onto the fried wanton skin to eat them.

Mushroom and Truffle Croquette

Mushroom and Truffle Croquette with raclette and aioli – Luxuriously filled with moistly mashed mushrooms that tasted so delicious with the truffles, very tasty and filled with umami.

Fish & Chips

Fish & Chips, ale battered cod with potato wedges – cod was used, I find the potato wedges were a letdown, but the battered fish was tasty.

Roast Pork Belly

Crispy Pork Belly with the calling card of a piquant chili tamarind dressing – while the crackling was delicious, I would not say for the meat as it was not as tender as I would expected.

Sirloin Cube

Galican 60 Mths Angus Hereford Sirloin Cubes, pepper-glenvilet 12 infused vintage angus sirloin cube (220gm), grilled tomatoes, confit garlic, chimichurri – The beef was not seasoned well and cut in a manner that became too chewy.

The service was stretched even for a Thursday evening. PSLE was on and it was supposed to be a quiet night. We can only see 4 tables that ordered food, but everything was stuck and then came all at once.

Conclusion : come for the drinks, the food you will not miss.
