First night in Bangkok after two years, we headed straight to Yaowarat despite it was late at night to get our seafood fix.
T&K Seafood is among the most popular seafood restaurants in the city and arguably the most popular seafood restaurant in Chinatown. T&K is Toi & Kid. Every evening, this restaurant is jam-packed with hungry customers. Because we came so late, many of the popular items, like oysters and cockles were already sold out.

Chayote leaves 龙须菜 is a favourite of mine, an acquired taste I picked up when I was living in Taiwan. You don’t get them much in Singapore as only the young leaves can be eaten. The mature one is too fibrous to be consumed. Here they stir fried it with garlic, oyster sauce and fish sauce. Very delicious.

The favourite Thai BBQ among Singaporeans, these freshwater shrimps can grow to the size of lobsters. It may seem to be small, but each one of them was the size of my palm, and I have big palm.

Be warned, there’s a lot of peppercorns in this one. The first time had Steamed Prawns with Glass Noodles was at Thai Village in Singapore back in the 80s. I remembered the peppery taste, but this was an overdose of the spice.

Tom Yam Goong is a must order in Thailand. There was an ample amount of seafood in this spicy soup. And unlike the versions overseas, Thai tom yum soup does not have coconut milk in them.

We wanted to order oyster omelette but they were out of oysters. So we substituted the oysters with crab meat. Not quite the reverent Jay Fai’s version, but the Crab Meat Omelette turned out to be as delicious and at a fraction of the price.

I always order the steamed sea bass in all the Thai restaurant I go to. The Steamed White Snapper in Garlic and Lemon Soup at T&K was as fresh as it gets. My companions did not like the muddy flavour of farmed sea bass, even though it had been greatly reduced by the garlic and lime. I pretty much finished the entire fish.

T&K Seafood is located on the corner of Phadung Doa Road and Yaowarat Road, the main street of Chinatown Bangkok. The restaurant is easily recognisable with its green-coloured balcony and the large group of staff dressed in green polo t-shirts preparing the food in front of the restaurant. Many have criticised about the cleanliness and price of the restaurant. But still, you only pay around 500 baht (S$20) per person so don’t complain, folks.
