Good Eats

The St Regis @ Kuala Lumpur

Welcome to the weekend of Kuala Lumpur good eats, starting with breakfast in the hotel. You must be wondering what’s so special about breakfast buffet line in a hotel, not when it’s the St Regis.

The Fat Horse by Botero

The story of KL St Regis is all about polo, the game of Kings. Walls are decorated with polo-themed pictures and photographs. Appreciation letter and affiliation with the Royal Polo clubs adorned the trophy cabinet. And there’s the giant Botero’s horse overlooking at you at the lobby lounge. I happened to stay here for one night for a short overnighter to KL.

Of all the items in a breakfast buffet in Malaysia, I always crave for their nasi lemak (coconut milk rice) that is served with sambal (chilli sauce), ikan billis (deep fried anchovies), boiled eggs. The more luxe version will have beef rendang, chicken wings, and other wonderful Malay dishes. And for reason of hygiene, everything was served to you instead of you taking them from the line yourselves.

And for St Regis, this hotel is often visited and stayed over by visiting dignitaries and Malaysian royalties coming to the capital for official business. So the buffet breakfast was more luxurious than most hotels. Live cooking stations for omelettes, noodles and porridge will customise all your requests and deliver the food to your table.

A Breakfast for Champion

The nasi lemak was delicious and I went for two portions. There’s a version f the noodles that tasted like lor mee that was also delicious with the sambal. And overall it was a very good breakfast.

I can really get use to this.
