Jojoen 叙々苑 is a chain of high-quality BBQ restaurants best known for its delicious wagyu and local beef. A yakiniku meal here during lunch is an affordable and delicious affair.

Yakiniku (焼き肉 or 焼肉), meaning “grilled meat”, is a Japanese term that, in its broadest sense, refers to grilled meat cuisine. The cuts of meat and or vegetables are delivered to your table raw, and you cook it at your table.
吟味ランチ Ginmi Set Menu
We ordered their top lunch menu, which is still very affordable at ¥6,500 that featured their best cuts of meats. Of course there are cheaper alternatives that start from ¥2,500.
焼物[特選サーロイン焼、上カルビ焼、タン塩焼] Grilled food [special sirloin grilled, grilled upper ribs, grilled tongue with salt]

Just look at the beautiful marbling on the sirloin cut (three pieces) as well as the upper ribs (middle, two pieces). The beef are all seasoned with their in-house yakiniku sauce that you can get in Japanese supermarkets these days so that you can bring home the Jojoen experience. And to round up the selection, there were two pieces of gyutan seasoned with salt and pepper.
漬物、サラダ、ナムル、ライス、スープ Pickles, salad, namul, rice, soup

Every set comes with the standard pickles and rice, seaweed soup, and an assortment of seasoned salads called namul (ナムル). This side dish is Korean in origin and unlike pickles or kimchi, these vegetables are freshly seasoned with different condiments and are not left to ferment or pickled.
デザート、ランチドリンク Dessert, lunch drink

And to round up the set, a drink of your choice (we ordered iced coffee) and a small portion of almond pudding which they are famous for as well.
Ala Carte
Since we are here, why stop at the set menu? Don’t get me wrong, the set was generous and filling, but this would most likely the only yakiniku meal this trip, we decided to order a couple more selected cuts to share.

I ordered another ala carte portion of thick cut cow tongue 特選タン塩焼 as Japan is the only place to get these deliciously tender cuts of wagyu-tan.

For lunch they offer this rough cuts platter which takes the end cuts of the best meat (top-grade wagyu included) and sell them at a discounted price. These are not discarded meat, but they are just not large enough to be on the regular plate. So they combine them as an assortment.

Besides beef, they also offer chicken and pork, and limited amount of seafood. Pork belly 豚トロ焼 would be the best choice for yakiniku.

Unlike the ones in Korea, they do not do the grilling for you, and so we had to do it ourselves. Luckily they do provide the deodorant spray for your clothings that helped reduce the smoke. Just remember to checkin your coats at the door so that the smell does not stick to them.

Interestingly, the lettuce wraps are given in Japan, while in Korea it would not appear in top-grade yakiniku restaurants.

The meat was always delicious. Lunch prices are really value-for-money given the quality of the meat served. If you commuting across cities, you can also buy the Jojoen bentos at Shinkansen stations.
