Good Eats

Le Mansion 樂满軒 @ SRC

This is the third Chinese restaurant to operate at this location in Singapore Recreation Club (SRC) since 2020. And this time it is club-operated.

First it was Swatow that took over in 2020 and served decent Teochew cuisine. And the Fu Lin Men in 2021 (I liked this one) which was mainly Cantonese. Now Le Mansion (2023) took over and served a mix of Cantonese and Teochew.

脆皮炸大肠 Deep-fried Pork Intestine served with Sweet & Sour Sauce

I used to order this when I was working in Hong Kong from the chachaanteng near my apartment. This dish brought back all the memories; even the sauce was how I remembered it. Crispy on the outside, the deep fried pork intestine had been processed properly. But the pineapple slices did not do any good.

花雕醉鸡卷 Drunken Chicken Roll with Hua Diao Jiu

Alright but not as good as the previous operator, the drunken chicken was dried out on the inside.

姜葱炒鹿肉片 Wok-fried Sliced Venison with Ginger & Spring Onion

The sautéed venison was excellent, and if it was served on a hotplate, it would be just like the one from Lai Wah from the past.

潮式蚝仔粥 Teochew Baby Oyster Porridge

I have been looking for similar oyster porridge that I always order in Hong Kong. And this was almost similar to the ones from the Teochew restaurants in Hong Kong.

The porridge had a really flavourful soup based with bits of garlic just like the one in Hong Kong. The sole fish was too thick, would be perfect if it was thinly sliced.

顺德煎莲藕饼 Pan-fried Pork Pattie with Lotus Root, Shunde Style

Shunde classic of a slice of lotus root topped with minced pork and shrimp, coated with flour and deep fried. Delicious.

雪菜肉丝炒面 Fried Noodle with Shredded Pork & Pickled Shanghai Mustard Plant

I misinterpreted the word fried; the egg noodles were deep fried instead of stir-fried. At first, I did not enjoy the noodles because there was too little sauce. The shredded pork did not taste like pork though, more like fish. But when you add the pickled green chilli, it changed the whole dish.

Personally, I don’t recommend this.

豆沙锅饼 Red Bean Paste Pancake

And for dessert we ordered the Chinese pancake. Let a good Chinese dessert, it was not too sweet. And the crispy crust with the fragrant sesame seeds was a real treat to end the meal.

The service team at the front of the house used to be from Fu Lin Men, so the service was still impeccable. With a new menu from the Master Chefs formerly of Hua Ting, it showed lots of potential. However, the restaurant is now members-only. Not sure how long can they sustain with this restriction.
