Occupying the premise of Canopy, Palm Garden was a Western Grill place with live music in the evening and a pet-friendly area outside the main dining room.
Did I say “was”? After this visit in April, I realised that it was closed in May. Too bad as the food was not too bad, and Rosie had a good time there as well.

So much for a Western grill, the first appetiser platter was totally Asia, with the satays and Singapore style harjeong fried chicken wings. Delicious start to the family gathering together with our furry kid. They just need to be more liberal with their satay sauce.

I was never a fan of tortilla chips, so didn’t even try.

A slow cooked beef with brown sauce and fresh herbs served on a bed of creamy mashed potato. I liked the bits of jalapeño sprinkled in for a bit of heat.

As most of the family do not eat beef, they ordered the Impossible version. I tried Impossible burger once many moons ago, and decided to stay away because of the high salt content.

I am a beef lover and I ordered a piece of their Australian grass-fed MB5 ribeye steak at medium rare. Very Asian way of treating the steak, with the classic brown sauce that one is familiar with canteen Western food.

The Mediterranean platter came with a nice selection of grilled rack of NZ lamb chops, fish and chicken shish kebabs, and a selection of sides.

I loved the lamb chops, which we then placed an a la carte order, but the shish kebabs were too dry.

Just when you decided that this is a legit Western grill, you get this turmeric basmati rice. Too soggy for my preference, should have stuck to fries.

And finally, something from the pizza selection which tasted like a supermarket frozen pizza.

They did put a notice in their Instagram account that they will be opening up somewhere else. Hopefully Rosie can go there as well. Stay tuned!
