When it first opened at Raffles City, the queue went around the block. And when it came to JEM, the queue followed. Now a year later, the crowd is now more manageable.

Casa Vostra is helmed by Chef Antonio Miscellaneo. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because he’s the chef behind Singapore’s best pizzeria – La Bottega Enoteca in Joo Chiat – ranked 19 in the coveted 50 Top Pizza Asia Pacific 2023 list.

The pizza brand first launched in 2023 as a delivery-only, ready-to-heat concept, which gained massive popularity and later ran a sold-out pop-up event at Ann Siang Hill in late 2023. Its wild success sparked the idea to launch a Casa Vostra dine-in store to make artisanal pizzas more accessible to the masses.

Their registered trademark “Newpolitan” pizza is a contemporary take on the Neapolitan classic. The dough is cold-fermented for 36 hours using 100% Italian Molino Casillo flour and high-hydration techniques, then fired in a 450°C oven for a pillowy crust with a signature char.
Diavola

First up, the devil’s pizza. Usually in our local context, it meant that it’s spicy. The only heat came from the spicy pork salame, and the rest were quite standard stuff you find in a good Italian pizza – pizza sauce made from San Marzano tomatoes DOP, a soft cheese from Fiordilatte di Agerola, and finally before serving, fresh basil and shavings of Parmigiano Reggiano to finish. San Marzano tomatoes hail from the fertile volcanic soils surrounding Mount Vesuvius (yes, that one that destroyed Pompeii) in the Agro Sarnese-Nocerino region of Campania, and offer a nuanced sweetness, subtle acidity, and complex aroma that elevate any recipe. Overall, it was a good pizza, but not as amazing as the Pata Negra I had when Crazy Pizza came for a pop-up.
Prosciutto e Fichi

This is a white sauce based pizza with the usual goodies – parma ham, rocket lettuce, Parmigiano Reggiano. And then there’s Fiordilatte di Agerola, a premium, cow’s milk stretched-curd cheese (pasta filata) from the Lattari Mountains of Campania, and walnuts. But it was the fig jam that caught me by surprise. I never thought fig jam would work so well with something so savoury. Fig jam – “F*@k I’m Good, Just Ask Me”.
Burrata

And finally the simple Neapolitan Pizza Margherita – San Marzano tomatoes DOP, fresh basil, Parmigiano Reggiano, and topped with a burrata. And usually it’s the simple things that fail miserably. The burrata was rather dry for my liking, and there wasn’t enough sauce. Otherwise it was still a rather good eat.

OK, I was expecting something extraordinary. What we got was very above average. Definitely not Pizza Hut, but at the prices they charge (which is around the same as Pizza Hut), they are definitely value-for-money for the exceptional quality of ingredients and the final pizza. If you are expecting the Hawaiian pizza or other fancy cheese-stuffed crusts American style pizza, this is not the restaurant for you. But if you like your pizza crust chewy and smoky from the superheated oven with fresh ingredients, then Casa Vostra is the place.
