Coming back from shopping with the family at the outlets, we landed back in Queen Street Mall in downtown Brisbane. Didn’t feel like oriental or Japanese, we opted to go for a steak. Then a sign with a cow caught our eyes as we walked pass Hilton.
Vintaged Bar and Grill is the restaurant tucked secretly in the Hilton Hotel at the Edward Street end of the Queen Street Mall.
The Dinner
Vintage grill and bar fare (puns intended), but it was the surrounding that really caught my attention. An extensive wine list and several cuts of meat from different sources, you are spoiled for choice if you are looking for a nice steak.
Freshly shucked Australian oysters

You cannot fault fresh oysters sourced from Australian waters served with finger lime mignonette dressing and fresh lemon.
Wagyu carpaccio with capers and truffle oil

creamy wagyu carpaccio with capers and truffle oil. To be incredibly cliché it was decadently melt-in-your-mouth. A great combination of salty (capers) and earthy (truffle, cheese).
Seafood bouillabaisse with battered fried squid

The highlight of this saffron infused soup was the use of deep fried squid instead of just normal seafood. Nice touch, bold deviation from traditions.
Pan-seared Hervey Bay scallops with salsa verde

The fat juicy pan-seared Hervey Bay scallops teased with a piquant salsa verde, which complemented the sweet scallops perfectly.
Beef City black eye fillet
The juicy and tender eye fillet served with lemon, watercress and red wine jus was not ground-breaking but it was cooked perfectly. Came with a sliver of potato mille feuille and an amazing amount of béarnaise sauce that could drown your steak.
The Ambiance
It’s usually pretty quiet and relaxed. The bar forms part of the larger reception area of the hotel itself and is very classy. It extends to the restaurant area that is covered in glass walls to segregate different dining areas including the chef’s table and a very cool wine table, perfect for large groups.
The food here matches the environment. Classy, modern. But without the stuffiness of other fine dining restaurants. Being a hotel restaurant, you can get away with flip flops or shorts, but that’s what I don’t recommend. Dress up and enjoy a good evening out.
