Lunch at Tanjong Pagar series continue with a simple hambagu (Hamburg steak) with unlimited servings of osozai (side dishes).
The Hamburg Steak Keisuke outlet at Tanjong Pagar is one of the many Keisuke outlets in the area, and they offer different Japanese quick and good eats. This one along Peck Seah Street serves prime US beef patties on hotplates as well as a free flow of salad and an egg station omelettes and fried eggs made a la minute.
The main attraction is Hamburg steak, but they also serve chicken and steak. Each set is accompanied with free flow of eggs and a variety of 20 items spread of osozai (Japanese side dishes) and salad bar. It used to be a buffet concept, but these days it is served to you instead.
As this was a quick lunch break from me, I just picked a couple of dishes to accompany the main set. The sesame sauce soba was delicious.
Keisuke Prime Beef Hamburg Set comes with a prime beef hamburg, deep fried tofu, fried prawn, tofu with spring onion. Hamburg steak or hambagu ハンバーグ are a type of yoshoku, Western-style Japanese cuisine, along with dishes like omurice (omelette rice), doria, and Naporitan (Neapolitan) spaghetti.
Although these meals are not traditionally Japanese, they became popular during the Meiji era when Japan sought to Westernize and eat the same foods as Western countries. Hamburg steak or hambagu ハンバーグ became popular in Japan in the 1960s because of it was a more affordable way to serve meat by mixing it with other ingredients such as onions, bread crumbs, and egg.
Hambagu can be served with a number of gravy-style sauces, from Western-style demi-glace to chunky tomato sauce and red wine sauce, but is usually served with a savoury and tangy sauce made of ketchup and Worcestershire sauce that’s poured on top of the hamburger.
Good eat and very popular with the office folks, especially the ladies because of the salad bar.
