This is the second Seribu Rasa I have been to in Jakarta, the first being in Plaza Indonesia. Not exactly an Indonesian restaurant, there are some dishes that are Chinese, Thai and others influenced.

Inspired by the region’s culinary wealth, Seribu Rasa (One Thousand Flavors) offers delectable local dishes and seafood that embody the richness of Southeast Asian and Indonesian Flavours.
Oriental Seafood Cakwee
Fried traditional Chinese dough fills with ground squid and prawn, glazed with sweet and sour sauce

Tasted like sotong youtiao made popular among the seafood restaurants in Singapore, it did not require the coating of sweet sauce.
Deep Fried Tofu Kinabalu
Deep fried blend of homemade tofu, vegetables and salted fish served with chilli dipping sauce

I did not know the existence of this tofu dish in Kota Kinabaru, perhaps the inspiration came from the Hakka yongtaufoo that is quite popular there. It is nowhere near agedashi tofu in terms of taste, but it was delicious with the salted fish incorporated into the coating.
Hokkien Spring Roll
Deep fried crispy roll made of rice flour wrapper filled with sautéed vegetables and diced chicken

Filled with Hokkien style filling, the chopped up vegetables remained moist despite heavy frying.
Tauco Tahu Udang
Beancurd, prawn and bitter bean sautéed with fermented bean chilli sauce

Beef Rendang Minangkabau
Popular North Sumatra slow cooked beef with blend of spices paste and coconut milk

The beef rendang is fork tender and the rendang sauce requires mandatory consumption with rice – very rich and tasty.
Daun Singkong Tumbuk
Minced cassava leaf braised in traditional thick coconut milk

Daun Singkong (cassava leaf) is one of my favourite vegetables – the others being petai (stinky beans), sayur manis (Sabah vegetable), and kang kong (mimosa leaf) – that has a strong taste and lots of fibre.
Nusa Dua Grilled Pomfret
Smoked pomfret dressed with chef’s special sweet sauce and red mild chilli

One side of the grilled pomfret is smooched with sweet sauce infused with fermented black bean and the other with a local red chilli sauce. The pomfret could be bigger to take advantage of the sauces.
Tongseng Kambing Brebes
Lamb stewed with traditional spices and hint of sweet soy sauce

Tongseng is a type of Javanese stew made with aromatic spices, herbs, meat like goat or mutton (tongseng kambing). Brebes is a regency in the northwestern part of Central Java province in Indonesia.
Sayur Daun Papaya
Popular Manadonese stir-fried papaya leaf, topped with stinky beans

I never knew papaya leaves can be sautéed into a vegetable dish. In the older days, young papaya leaves were harvested and sautéed into a vegetable dish, and it wasn’t pleasant because it was slightly bitter.
Pepaya Jepang, or tree spinach, has leaves similar to papaya leaves, only they’re much smaller. The raw leaves contain a high content of toxic hydrocyanic acid, so cooking it prior to consumption is really necessary. This vegetable is a good source of protein, vitamins, calcium and iron. Compared to papaya leaves, tree spinach is more tender and it doesn’t taste bitter, making it more palatable for people who can’t tolerate bitter flavours.
Ayam Goreng Lengkuas
Fried chicken marinated in traditional galangal spices West Sumatra style

Ayam goreng lengkuas is a unique fried chicken dish from the Sunda region of West Java. Here, the chicken is simmered in spices that include a ton of galangal, deep fried, and then topped with galangal floss. I could not say I enjoyed it because the chicken was dried out even though it was full of flavours.
Mie Jawa
Traditional fried noodle cooked with seafood and vegetable Java style

Mie Jawa is a street food similar to fried Hokkien noodles, except it is sweeter and uses some spices. Very rustic and homely.
Dawet Durian Banjar
Classic ice dawet complimented with sweet red bean and topped with premium durian ice cream

Finally something sweet, and I have to order the cendol. Cendol is an iced sweet dessert that contains droplets of green rice flour jelly made with pandan juice, coconut milk, sweetened red beans and palm sugar syrup. This version included a quenelle of durian ice cream. It would taste much better with durian mousse instead.

The chain restaurant can be found in several locations across Jakarta, and it is a safe bet for quality Indonesian fare for the foreigners.
