This corner of the mall is often overlooked and therefore the eateries here did not last long. The latest to take up space here is Tun Xiang Hokkien Delights.

Tun Xiang Hokkien Delights popped up overnight all over the island.
胶原胡椒鱼鳔猪肚汤 White Pepper Collagen Pig’s Stomach Soup

A traditional Chinese soup made with fish maw, pig stomach, and collagen, seasoned with pepper. But you can taste the chilli padi among the heat of the soup. If it’s all white pepper, it’s not that sharp in terms of heat on the tongue. And there’s not much of the fragrance of the white pepper. In place, the soup was quite generous in terms of ingredients.
招牌福建面 Signature Hokkien Mee

White and yellow noodles fried with bean sprouts, squid, prawns and pork belly strips and then braised in prawn stock, Hokkein mee is my go-to comfort food of choice.

Condiments provided are chopped chilli padi in light soy sauce (for the pig stomach soup) and a sambal chilli mix that brought me back to the memories of Geylang Lor 13 Hokkien mee. The chilli was filled with whole anchovies back in those days, and I always asked for more.

And the chilli was the old school version with bits of anchovies that gave it a lot of umami. Put a hefty spoonful and squeeze on the lime provided, and mix it thoroughly with the noodles.

Right in the soul of the Hokkien me would be the bits of pork lard crackling. Too me, any Hokkien mee without that is not worthy to be called Hokkien mee. Thankfully there was a large spoonful of it sprinkled on the noodles before service. That kept the crackling from turning soggy in the sauce.

What it lacked in wokhei, it compensated with lots of ingredients. You can find some squid, or prawn, or pork belly in every mouthful.

Not exactly hawker price, but it is full of ingredients (like the ones I make at home) so I happily paid the $8.90. The place is the eighth outlet for the chain, and is suitable for a quick bite only.
