My first introduction to Henghwa fare was at Putien. And since their Kitchener outlet got a Michelin star, Henghwa food became a very popular cuisine choice.
Henghwa food is very similar to Hokkien and also influenced by Teochew. You have the Teochew classic like prawn fritter, but you have Henghwa style noodles that is similar to Hokkien noodle.

Deep fried crispy prawn fritter 脆蝦棗
Just like a deep fried fish ball, quite tasty.

Cockles with spicy sauce 一等鮮蚶
Lightly blanched and extremely small, but it’s a good fix-it if you are craving for hum.

Heng Hua fried bee hoon 興華米粉
Very good, not too dry, not too wet, just enough moisture to slurp down the bee hoon.

Heng Hua noodles 興華炒麵
Very yummy, the sauce was delicious with the shellfish, umami was present.

Cold trotters 凍元蹄
Not recommended. Bland and hard.

Fried bean curd with Chinese cabbage 豆乾炒大白菜
Not recommended, the whole plate was just cabbage stock.

Deep fried squirrel fish with fish sauce 水果松鼠魚
Cooked with canned food so it artificially sweet. Not recommended.
Afterwards
There are very few good eating places up here in the North. Even so, Heng Hua cannot replace Putien as a Henghwa food fix, but their noodles are good enough, but the rest of the fare was pretty bad. As this is in a coffeeshop, don’t expect a fine dining experience.
