Fine Dining

Aurora @ Macau

Located inside Altira Hotel, Aurora has one of the best lunch specials going in town. And the food is not too shabby.

Aurora is known for its excellent Mediterranean cuisine crafted with premium ingredients by an experienced kitchen team. The large main dining area stretches across an elongated room, from a private dining area to banquettes overlooking a panoramic sea view and the well-stocked bar. The interior exudes understated luxury with contrasts of gold and red velvet throughout the dining establishment. The open kitchen offers an unobstructed view of the full kitchen team at work.

Awards

Given the prices of the set lunches, and the choices available to make your own set, you would not believe it has got the nods from so many awards. Anyway, it’s Macau and competition is stiff. Any reason to make someone walk through the doors is another chance for them to stay on the tables.

Amuse Bouche

Amuse bouche

Amuse bouche – king crab tartelette topped with caviar and grilled prawn and caviar on rice cracker

The tartlet is Aurora’s signature and has been featured quite regularly as well as served during 4 hands collaboration with other chefs.

Amuse bouche – homemade limoncello

Artisanal Buddha’s hand Limoncello

Buddha’s hand lemon is often described as a “lemon with fingers”. It has a sweet fragrance and a mild zest. The fruit has little to no flesh and no juice. The rind is carefully extracted for Aurora homemade limoncello liquor.

I am not a fan of limoncello, had too much during my honeymoon to Italy and until this day reminded me of Mama Lemon detergent. But Aurora’s much lighter but still as potent as rocket fuel. Still no fan.

Daily bread

If there’s one thing to pick, it’s their bread. One would expect a restaurant on the edge of a Michelin star would have a better a bakery. But the bread seemed to be from the central kitchen of the hotel rather than the restaurant and the butter can be bought from the supermarket.
