Hung Kee Chiu Chow Eatery @ Hong Kong

Went back to HK recently and went to dinner near the Novotel. Wanted to go to the famous roast goose, decided to settle for something healthier, something Teochew.

In a nondescript store along Lockhart street, you would get the traditional Teochew food. There are only 4 tables in there as most of their customers will do takeaways.

Their specialty is Teochew braised goose. We ordered a plate of goose and goose intestines, goose liver and tofu. The braising liquid has already soaked through all the goose parts. The intestine was a bit too chewy. But what was disappointed was the goose liver, not soft and creamy.

And we also ordered a couple of other dishes to go with our Teochew porridge. The chilled grey mullet was excellent – naturally beaming with fish oil, the fish was really fresh and sweet. They have removed (most of) the bones, so it was so easy to tear through the fish.

The total damage for the evening was only a fraction of what a posh Teochew restaurant would charge but the food quality was just as good. The only thing you need to endure is that it is located next to a dump, so you would only go in late nights after the wet market is closed.

Cash only.
